Dreamy orangery
If you had an orangery how would you dress it? This lovely client went for a big bold embroidered pattern, which we managed to follow the design perfectly across the room.
Designing for large, open-plan spaces is always a rewarding challenge. For this recent project in Norfolk, I was asked to help create a cohesive soft furnishing scheme for a stunning orangery that featured multiple zones. The goal was to bring unity and flow to the space while allowing each zone to feel distinct and inviting.
A Balanced Blend of Texture and Tone
To achieve this, we designed a combination of bespoke curtains and blinds that worked harmoniously across the room. For the blinds, the client chose a beautiful embroidered fabric from Clark & Clark—a vibrant floral design which complimented existing colours and features within the room . To add interest and help with cohesion we used a plain cotton-linen by Sanderson for the curtains and the contrasting leading edge to the blinds, tying the whole look together.
This subtle contrast created a sense of rhythm throughout the orangery, allowing the eye to move naturally from one area to the next. It’s a technique I often use in larger Norfolk and Suffolk homes where open-plan living is popular but cohesion is key.
Designed for Flow, Built for Comfort
The orangery was used for everything from morning coffee and music practice to evening entertaining, so the soft furnishings needed to be both practical and elegant. The embroidered blinds offered gentle light control without overpowering the space, while the curtains added softness and warmth—especially important during cooler months in East Anglia.
MORE Projects

It’s not everyday you get asked to do Apex curtains and recently I have been lucky enough to work on two lovely projects and I was thrilled with the results as were my lovely clients.

A fantastic seating area for this summer. I was very reluctant to let these go but they look superb in their new home.
