Patriotic Roman blind
Some projects call for a little extra creativity—and this one was a true labour of love. For a client living in a beautiful barn conversion in North Norfolk.
I was asked to design a Roman blind with a vintage Union Jack motif for their sitting room. But rather than using a pre-designed fabric, I created the flag entirely from scratch using a selection of linen fabrics in muted tones.
Pieced by Hand, Designed with Heart
Each section of the Union Jack was carefully cut and stitched from different linens, chosen for their texture and aged character. The goal was to achieve a soft, vintage look that would sit comfortably within the rustic charm of the barn. It wasn’t just about getting the colours right—it was about creating a piece that felt timeworn, personal, and full of soul.
The blind was fully lined for structure and light control, and designed to fold neatly when raised, allowing the flag design to remain visible and balanced whether open or closed.
A Statement Piece for a Characterful Space
This blind became a real talking point in the sitting room. It added a bold, patriotic touch while still feeling understated and elegant. The handcrafted nature of the design gave it a warmth and authenticity that couldn’t be replicated with printed fabric.
Why Bespoke Matters in North Norfolk Homes
Barn conversions in North Norfolk often feature exposed beams, textured walls, and unique proportions. Off-the-shelf furnishings rarely suit these spaces. That’s why I offer bespoke handmade blinds and curtains—to help homeowners create interiors that reflect their style and celebrate the character of their homes.
If you’re dreaming of a one-of-a-kind piece for your home, I’d love to help you bring it to life.
MORE Projects

It’s not everyday you get asked to do Apex curtains and recently I have been lucky enough to work on two lovely projects and I was thrilled with the results as were my lovely clients.

A fantastic seating area for this summer. I was very reluctant to let these go but they look superb in their new home.

If you had an orangery how would you dress it? This lovely client went for a big bold embroidered pattern, which we managed to follow the design perfectly across the room.
