Velvet Roman blinds
This clients wallpaper set the tone for the bedroom design and the luxurious trio of velvets added texture and layers to compliment and finish this stunning bedroom.
Featured Project: Three-Tone Velvet Roman Blinds & Pelmets for a Home on the Essex–Suffolk Border
Sometimes the most elegant solutions come from a practical challenge. For this recent project on the Essex–Suffolk border, I was asked to design soft furnishings for a room with windows of varying heights. The goal was to create a unified look that disguised the differences while adding warmth and sophistication to the space.
A Tailored Approach to Visual Balance
I designed a set of plain velvet Roman blinds, each finished in a three-tone colour scheme to bring depth and cohesion to the room. The tones were carefully chosen to complement the client’s interior palette—rich, understated, and full of texture.
To further enhance the symmetry, I created bespoke pelmets that sat above each blind. These helped to visually level the windows, creating a consistent line across the room and drawing the eye away from the height variations. The result was a space that felt calm, balanced, and beautifully considered.
Bespoke Design for Characterful Homes
Velvet was the perfect choice for this project—it catches the light beautifully and adds a sense of luxury without being overpowering. The layered tones gave the blinds a subtle design edge, while the pelmets added structure and polish.
Why Bespoke Matters on the Essex–Suffolk Border
Homes along the Essex–Suffolk border often feature unique layouts and architectural quirks. Whether it’s a converted farmhouse or a modern country retreat, bespoke handmade blinds and curtains allow for tailored solutions that respect the space and elevate the design.
If you’re working with uneven windows or want to create a more harmonious look in your home, I’d love to help you find the perfect soft furnishing solution.
Let me know if you’d like to build a “Design Challenge & Solution” section for this one, or add a visual mock-up to show how the pelmets helped unify the space. Ready for the next project whenever you are.
MORE Projects

It’s not everyday you get asked to do Apex curtains and recently I have been lucky enough to work on two lovely projects and I was thrilled with the results as were my lovely clients.

A fantastic seating area for this summer. I was very reluctant to let these go but they look superb in their new home.

If you had an orangery how would you dress it? This lovely client went for a big bold embroidered pattern, which we managed to follow the design perfectly across the room.
